Panels: Krigstein’s Multi-Panel

This panel from “In the Bag” by B. Krigstein (found in B. Krigstein Comics (Fantagraphics)) is a wonderful example of a kind of multi-panel in one. The narration and the narrator in the front pulls this sequence into one panel-like unit, but the multiple sections create an internal sequence to the panel. Quite an interesting technique. It’s also important to notice how this panel (perhaps not obvious out of context) is mostly contained within the narrators head. He’s extrapolating from what he’s hearing, and Krigstein is showing is this internal vision. The blue and yellow color scheme is also quite striking. Unfortunately the screen tone of the original did not scale as well as it could have.
