Tsuge Shorts

Welcome to Madinkbeard. If you enjoy this post you could subscribe to the RSS feed to receive upcoming posts or browse the archives to see past posts. I also create a twice weekly webcomic called Things Change: The Metamorphoses Comic

Jog points over to two scanlations (downloads linked on this forum thread) of short comics by Yoshiharu Tsuge, a mangaka (I just learned that’s “manga creator”) who started back in the sixties publishing in Garo the same magazine from whence my earlier foray into underground manga came (sadly he is in neither volume).

These are brief, deceptively simple stories that have just a bit of a dreamlike quality to them. I find “Marsh” much more interesting and layered than the other story. French publisher Ego Comme X has a nice bio here (with English translation) and a few sample page from his L’Homme sans talent which they publish in translation. I’m adding that to my list of things to look for. This looks more like the alternative manga I’d like to read.
