Awhile back, Tom Spurgeon linked to Trains Are Mint #4 by Oliver East. About 100 pages of ink and watercolor wash accompanying text about a narrator camping around Norway. The whole thing’s online so go read it. Despite the lack of much in the way of story, the narrative voice is enough to keep the reading interesting and the drawings are beautiful and simple, like a slightly more detailed Porcellino mixed with Steinberg (The people remind me of him) and watercolors. Green has this great abstract way of drawing groups of trees and buildings like long strips of 2 dimensional fences:
I love it. It took me a couple pages when I first saw the trees drawn that way to figure out what they were supposed to be, but it grew on me over time. Take a look at posted his 24 hour comic.
Highly recommended. I’m going to have to get copies of the earlier issues.
