you're totally right.  As far as I can tell, that strip (together with the others on the same page) was the first abstract comic I ever saw, at some point in the late '80's, when I bought the catalogue for the Whitney Steinberg exhibition.  I  actually posted, a couple of years ago, that very strip as an example in a thread on abstract comics on the TCJ Boards.  To my eyes, the entire page from "The Labyrinth" where it appears seems to be some kind of impressionistic representation of an actual newspaper comics page--as if, stepping back from the paper far enough, you no longer can distinguish characters, words or plots, just the formal, anarchic energy in each strip.</description>
