Odds and Ends

Welcome to Madinkbeard. If you enjoy this post you could subscribe to the RSS feed to receive upcoming posts or browse the archives to see past posts. I also create a twice weekly webcomic called Things Change: The Metamorphoses Comic

Blogging has been, will be light for a bit, as I have a few projects on my plate. Here are a few links of interest (I hope):

1. If I haven’t mentioned it before Read Yourself Raw is a great site particularly for its round up of interesting things from the latest Previews solicitations. Here’s the latest one. There are some great art books coming out that month (Dan Nadel’s book, reprint of Jerry Robinson’s book, Phaidon’s Sempe book, Spurgeon’s Fantagraphics history).

2. Following on my review of C Hill’s gallery comic last week, one of my ongoing ego feeds (an ongoing search on my blog name that comes in via RSS) brought up the Gallery Comics blog, which has just started. Here’s hoping it stays around (unlike some of the other new blogs I’ve gotten excited about).

3. The latest Jacket magazine has a whole section on one of my favorite authors Gilbert Sorrentino, including a review by Dan Green of the latest from Sorrentino A Strange Commonplace (Coffee House, 2006) (I have it on my to-read pile for the very near future).

4. L Timmel Duchamp has an essay up about the Samuel Delany conference that went on in Buffalo last week, Delany being another one of my favorite authors. I need to find some more about the second keynote of the conference (in the words of Duchamp): “Jeff Tucker, author of A Sense of Wonder: Samuel R. Delany, Race, Identity, and Difference and Assistant Professor of English at the University of Rochester, opened the second day with a paper titled “Theorizing Comics through Delany’s Prisms, Mirrors, and Lenses.” Some day I’ll have to track down the Delany comics I don’t have and write up some reviews.

5. A little too late (it’s cancelled now) I have to say that Arrested Development is a hilarious television show.
