This month the Manga Moveable Feast (MMF) is all about Mushishi. The idea of the MMF seems to be getting a lot of people to write and talk about the same work. I’ve been rereading Mushishi for the past week, as I wanted to write something for the MMF, but, in looking back at what I wrote in January of 2009, I don’t have a lot to add.
So, if you are so inclined, take a look at my review of the first six volumes of the series.
You can also read my analysis of two pages from the series.
I have enjoyed rereading the series. I am tempted to just gather a collection of the most abstract panels from the series to share, but that would be too time consuming right now.
Del Rey is releasing the last three volumes (8, 9, and 10) as a single omnibus volume soon, so maybe I’ll have something more to say then. On this most recent read through the series I did notice more plot threads that connect different stories in the series. I’m not sure they amount to any sort of overarching plot, but maybe, in the end, Urushibara goes somewhere with it.
