I finished up my reading of Lone Wolf and Cub. I’m not going to post about the whole series, it’s just too much to deal with right now. Suffice to say, I really enjoyed the series, and do recommend it highly. It is both narratively and visually engaging with strong historical and thematic material too.
I wanted to post these two spreads from volume 15.

This stopped me cold in my reading. Koike and Kojima repeat a sequence of four panels twice. As best as I can tell, they not only repeated, they are exactly the same drawings. I don’t know what to make of it. Does it have some narrative significance? Is it a mistake? Is it a strange way to fill up space (in the middle of a chapter)? I don’t know, but I thought I’d share.

It’s actually five panels repeated (the bottom of page 68 is the same as the top of page 69), making all of page 69 extra.
Looks like it was done to make sure that the double page spreads come out right (you know how Kojima likes his double page spreads). I don’t know enough about the original publication history of LW&C to know if that means a page was likely edited out at some point, or something else.
I just noticed the other repeated panel this morning when this post went up. Your idea of adding the page for the spread makes a lot of sense.
