Links for November 3rd through November 14th
Welcome to Madinkbeard. If you enjoy this post you could subscribe to the RSS feed to receive upcoming posts or browse the archives to see past posts. I also create a twice weekly webcomic called Things Change: The Metamorphoses Comic and an irregularly updated notes blog that contains short quotes, comments, images, or links mostly related to comics and criticism.
Some reading for November 3rd through November 14th:
- CR Review: What Birds Know - Tom reviews one of my regular webcomics reads. (If only they had an rss feed so I could remember to read it regularly.)
- Fall 2008: New Comics from Pantheon - PWCW on Pantheon’s Fall 08 line, including David Mazzuchelli’s “Asterios Polyp”! It’s been forever since he released something, and I can’t wait.
- CHARLES SCHULZ ON HIS PROCESS OF MENTAL DRAWING - Quoted by Austin Kleon. I do this “mental drawing” all the time. More than I do actual drawing.
- Jesse Hamm On Jesse Marsh - Briefly on Marsh’s Tarzan work. Nice bit about the compositions of panels. I’ll be looking for the forthcoming Dark Horse reprints.
- Academaesthetics by Shane Smith - An essay in comics form about comics and essays. Quite interesting, I’ve often thought about comics essays, it’s so rare to see comics that are not just non-fiction but also non-narrative (i.e. not autobiography, history)… (link thanks to Neil Cohn)
- Dash Shaw’s new book - Is coming out from Fantagraphics in the spring! According to his site, he’ll also have a couple stories in Mome. You can see sample pages of all of them here.
