June 2006 Orders
My pre-orders for June:
Times of Botchan #3 by Natsuo Sekikawa & Jiro Taniguchi (Fanfare/Ponent Mon): I reviewed the first two books of this series of ten. So far I’m planning on sticking with this historical fiction manga series.
C’est Bon Anthology by various (C’est Bon Kultur): International anthology. Info about the publisher.
Interiorae #2 by Gabriella Giandelli (Fantagraphics): The first was interesting enough that I want to see the second. Dreamy and surreal but grounded in daily life. I learned my lesson about ordering all the Ignatz books, so I’m skipping the new ones this month from Sala and Gilbert Hernandez (both of whom I’ve never really warmed to).
Daredevil #88 by Brubaker and Lark (Marvel): Yes, a superhero comic pamphlet. I checked out a few issues of Brubaker’s follow-up to Bendis’ run and I’m interested in the way he’s working off of the mess Bendis left the characters in. Lark’s art is a nice contrast to Maleev’s, more human, less stiff.
Plus new issues of Love and Rockets (Fantagraphics), The Comics Journal (ditto), Tezuka’s Phoenix (Viz) and Following Cerebus (the Neal Adams issue from Aardvark Vanaheim/Win-Mill).
I’m also interested in the Toth Doodle book from Octopus, the Harvey Kurtzman book from Fantagraphics, and Lost Girls from Top Shelf (I have the two original issues, and I’ve always wanted to know where it went). All of which I’ll probably just order from the publishers later.
There’s also a new printing of The Comic Art of Lionel Feininger coming out (my review).
