I was considering various ways of limiting the drawings theselves, but I couldn't come up with any real corrolary to syllables that seemed feasible. Using block of color would end up being really abstract and haiku are rarely abstract.

I like how the micro shot first seems abstract then its subject matter later becomes apparant.

I liked the idea about having a certain number of elements in each panel. Though it's forced upon you to some extent by having each panel be at the scale it is, maybe showing all the detail in the macro kind of loses the bare-bones simplicity of the haiku?

Maybe it might work better if you forced yourself to lose detail... or maybe work only with outlines or blocks of colour? Maybe you could use 5,7,5 blocks of colour in 3 panels?

Of course, some objects are harder to represent that way, but it still seems worth persuing maybe...

Just a thought.
