Going to a Conference
I’m off in a few hours to Washington, D.C. for Computers In Libraries 2006. This is me wearing my library hat, hoping to pick up some interesting tidbits from colleagues. I probably will not be blogging anything about the conference, as so far my library thoughts and activites have not found a place in this blog.
I scheduled two posts for the rest of the week, which start off a new series of posts I’m working on which right now I’m calling “Panels Alone.” The plan is to take single panels, out of context, and look at them. Maybe they’ll just be really aesthetically pleasing drawings, or maybe they’ll have something else to tell. I find these striking panels in my reading, and I wanted to take note of them for myself and you readers. It’s also, in my small way, a reaction against the many comics bloggers that tend to post panels for the sheer humor and oddity of the them. Also in my mind is the idea of looking at panels as single illustrations which has come up in a few places in my reading lately.
If anyone has panels to suggest, send me a reference or better yet a good scan. Might be interesting to see what can be made of panels from stories I haven’t read.
While I’m posting, those of you who read the site (rather than the RSS feed) may have noticed the Tag cloud I put in at the top of the home page. I’ve been tagging my posts as much as possible to create alternate organizations for the browsing and searching. Just click on the terms and you’ll get a list of posts that relate.
I’ll be back next week with a new Maroon on Sunday.
