December 2006 Orders
This month’s pre-orders:
Hunter and Painter by Tom Gauld (Buenaventura): Gauld gets a lot of mileage out of two buddies interacting with each other: in this case, two cavemen. Still, there’s something about his minimal drawings and deadpan humor that keep me reading.
American Elf Vol 2: The Collected Sketchbook Diaries, 2004-2005 by James Kochalka (Top Shelf): Now in color! This is one of those strips I probably could follow online, but, there’s no RSS feed, so I never remember to read it. Either way, volume one was a lot of fun (my favorite of Kolchalka’s various works).
Alex Toth: The Edge of Genius (Pure Imagination): Volume one of three collecting various strips from Toth. I’m gonna check this out and see what the reproduction is like. Toth’s graphic skill is impressive and worth studying.
Phoenix Volume 10 by Osamu Tezuka (Viz): Continuing this excellent manga, this is the last story of the 12 that make up the series. I believe this story is long enough to take up 2 volumes.
New issues of my two regular comics magazines: Comics Journal and Following Cerebus.
Milton Caniff, Terry & The Pirates, & Steve Canyon: Meanwhile… by R.C. Harvey (Fantagraphics): I’m not going to pre-order this, but I’ll probably read it at some point.
