Comics circa 1977
The latest Following Cerebus (#6) has an interesting article about the comics world circa 1977 when Cerebus was starting up. The piece discusses the state of the industry, the origin of the direct market, the (lack of) variety of books available, and comments from Bud Plant, Chuck Rozanski, and others. There’s a picture of what would have been on the shelves at that time and discussion of the various small/indie published comics of the time, which were few. One of them Jack Katz’s First Kingdom is currently being reprinted (I just got volume 1 to check out). The industry sure has changed a lot.
