Derik, do you know Hubert Damisch’s “Rhetorique du /Nuage/”? (Yes, that’s how the title was originally written, but you’ll probably find it in catalogues without the slashes). I think there’s also an English translation. Anyway, you might find it interesting–it’s all about clouds, mostly in Renaissance painting, IIRC.
