Neil, I'm not sure Peeters really engages the any real moral dilemma in the book. I wouldn't want to assume any "American right" angle to a work by a Swiss artist. Don't know enough about the Swiss political landscape.

I think what is missing in the review is the moral dilemna found in the HIV/AIDS debate. Peeters is attempting to state that he loves Cati and that Cati's son and Cati are innocent victims not dissolutes, which the fundamentalist and American right want to portray the AIDS sufferers as. Peeters is also stating in an imperfect way that love, trust and fidelity are capable in this age where there is a lot of words, slippery slopes and nondefinable barriers set up by the doctrinaire right-wing.

Thanks for the comments, Pablo.

I'm planning on reviewing "The End" soon. I've had it for a long time, but I finally got "Don't Go Where I Can't Follow" that I thought would make a good accompaniment for a review.

Great blog!
I liked a lot the Fran King also.

About Blue Pills, it also let me down after all the praise i read from the french press.

I think it is a sincere book and i value it for that, but it also seemed to me that it doesn´t flow naturally, it seems to much "constructed".

About strong health topics i prefer "The End" by Anders Nilsen or "Epileptic" by David B. The first one is probably the most beautifull book i read in my life (althoug it is full of pain)

Kind regards,
Pablo
