Tricked by Alex Robinson. Top Shelf, 2005. 350p, b+w, $19.95.

A story about a number of characters in a realistic contemporary setting. In the end all their stories take them to one event that involves them all and… well, then… I don’t know, I guess we’re supposed to see how all lives are connected somehow. Maybe we all learned a lesson or something. The ending really just drops off after the time invested in setting it up.

I wasn’t impressed with this, Robinson’s second extra-large graphic novel. It’s a mediocre novel in comics form, except… if this were a novel it probably wouldn’t have been published. Though, unlike many works labeled so, at least the monicker “graphic novel” really applies here. It is novelistic, just not in any above average way.

The art is adequate; the writing is okay. I even managed to finish the whole thing, but mostly because I kept hoping I’d see what the interest was. I’m not sure. Maybe it’s just not my thing.
