Glad to please, Matthew! This let's us trade: "you blogged about what I didn't for today".

I've read a number of the referenced classics (including Crime and Punishment but not Wuthering Heights) and, no, I don't think there's much in the way of commentary on the originals that you need to get.

I'll admit to not even finishing the Lulu/Hawthorne piece. Too long and dragging.

Ah, finally somebody says it! I thought much the same thing when I read this, but I never wrote about it, probably because I had other stuff I wanted to get to and didn't feel like I could voice what I wanted to say well enough. Also, like the typical uneducated American, I haven't read several of the classics (Crime and Punishment, Wuthering Heights) in here, and felt like in some cases it might just be going over my head. I've been surprised to see the near-universal acclaim the book has received, so it's good to hear somebody else voice what I was feeling: that it's a cute, fun exercise in small doses, but really drags when put together in one volume. Thanks for that.

I would say, I did like Little Nemo/Dorian Gray and Peanuts/Metamorphosis the best; maybe these work better when they're shorter. Some of the longer pieces did really seem to drag, didn't they?
