Naturally I’m with you 100% on Kojima’s expressive quality, and I’m glad to see some samples of his more abstract renderings–even when, as you note, the seemingly abstract is intelligible as something concrete in context (waves, sky, etc.).

I look forward to your discussion of Nausicaä, which is one of my favorite works in comics; and I really hope to get caught up on your Phoenix series soon (though you’ve already outstripped my reading of the books so far)!
