It’s been months since I posted a cloud panel. Here’s one from Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix vol. 7 (Viz, 2006). Despite his caricatural characters, Tezuka tends to use very detailed backgrounds, particularly the nature scenes. The world becomes more real than the characters in some ways. Here’s a great one panel page, a dark mountain with clouds above it. Lots of linework.

Wow, awesome. Specially the sexual metaphor… Most people see Tezuka (and manga itself) as childish… He often included sex in his stories when it was necessary, sometimes quite explicit (Mw) and sometimes in a more subtle way (like here). There’s still a lot to learn from Tezuka.
